TAMPA — A Royal Caribbean cruise that had to return to the Tampa port after 150 passengers and crew members suffered a stomach illness has been sanitized, and it will depart on another cruise.
The Radiance of the Seas left port Monday bound for Mexico. It returned to port Saturday. The cruise terminal was also sanitized, and the ship was scheduled to depart on another cruise Saturday night. The company said it suspects the illness was a stomach flu, which is highly contagious. Those affected were given over-the-counter medication.
Cindy Watson of Lutz told the Tampa Tribune that the repeated announcements about the illness and precautions such as banning menus and silverware from meals were scary. She didn't want her 3-year-old son to touch anything.
