Pasco woman barred from driving for life in DUI plea deal

NEW PORT RICHEY — Lisa Astl, who was working as a preschool teacher in 2009 when she was charged with her fourth DUI, made a plea deal with prosecutors that keeps her out of prison. But Astl, 39, is barred from driving for life.

Early on Oct. 26, 2009, Astl was driving on U.S. 19 in New Port Richey going more than 90 mph, according to a deputy's report. She was with her boss, Wendy Viles Alexander, the 42-year-old owner of Hand In Hand Academy in Lutz. The deputy wrote that both women appeared drunk and gave each other's last names.

Astl refused a breath test. Both women were arrested, but Alexander's charge of giving false information to a law enforcement officer was later dropped.

Astl's case had been set for trial soon, but last week she pleaded no contest ...
