TAMPA — A driver headed into downtown Tampa hit a pedestrian with his car Tuesday evening, killing the pedestrian.
The accident occurred on an Interstate 275 off-ramp that merges into Tampa Street. Benjamin Walker, 42, said he drives the route in his four-door white Acura every day on his way home from work.
"That guy just jumped out in front of me," a shaken Walker said at the scene. "I have no idea why he would do a thing like that."
Walker said the man ran down a small hill on the side of the road and out onto the street. Walker said he didn't have enough time to stop.
Walker's car windshield had a large crater on the right side, and the pedestrian's body lay in the road about 100 feet away. The man's name was ...
