TAMPA — Internal Affairs investigators are looking into how a gun went off Monday afternoon in a squad room, striking the utility belt of an officer.
The police officer was inside the District III Headquarters, 3808 N 22nd St., when another officer's unholstered service weapon fired around 3 p.m., said Laura McElroy, a Tampa police spokeswoman. The officer wasn't injured, McElroy said.
Investigators are looking into why the gun was not in its holster. No punitive action has been taken.
