School board approves New boundaries

With only one parent rising in opposition, the Pasco County School Board approved new attendance boundaries this week for the middle and high schools serving the eastern third of the county. The changes became necessary because of crowding at John Long Middle and Wiregrass Ranch high schools, which have enrolled hundreds more students than they can hold in permanent seats. Students are being shifted to even the populations among schools in the region, with Wesley Chapel and Pasco high schools, and Weightman, Pasco and Stewart middle schools, seeing their zones grow for next year. School Board member Alison Crumbley said she hoped that parents would stay active in schools even if their children are transferred. "Schools are better when parents participate," Crumbley said.
