'Doggie dining' ordinance is approved
City commissioners unanimously approved the city's "doggie dining" ordinance Thursday night, allowing dog owners to bring their pets along when eating at some restaurants. Dogs now will be allowed in outdoor seating areas of restaurants that have the proper permit, in accordance with the state law that provides standards for health and hygiene. More than a dozen bars around town already allow dogs. The town, dubbed "Dogedin," is known for its love of pooches. At the city's Dogtoberfest in November, dog lovers at Highlander Park broke a Guinness world record for the most dogs in costumes — about 426 dogs.
