ZEPHYRHILLS — The Zephyrhills Police Athletic League has experienced some financial difficulties lately, but its director promised council members Monday night that it will pay its debts.
Mark LaMonte defended his organization, which has debts of more than $7,000. LaMonte said the group plans to pay the city back $2,300 for a utility bill today. It also has an outstanding balance of $4,000 with Pasco County and Progress Energy.
The financial trouble came when ZPAL tried to operate the Hercules Aquatic Center, LaMonte said. "We ended up having unforeseen expenses," he said.
"Sure, (ZPAL is) a business," LaMonte said. "And a lot of businesses are going out of business. We're not going anywhere."
