About half the rain this month fell in the past five days.

Since Saturday, about 4.41 inches of rain fell at the Tampa International Airport and 2.82 inches Albert Whitted Airport in St. Petersburg, according to the National Weather Service.

More rain was forecast for Thursday, said Bay News 9 meteorologist Juli Marquez. Rain chances are 70 percent for the Tampa Bay area.

"Even if you're not getting any rain this morning, you may want to bring an umbrella," Marquez said.

Rain chances are expected to dip to 50 percent Friday and hover between 40 and 50 percent this weekend.

This week may have felt especially waterlogged because of a long stretch of dry, hot weather across the region.

Before Saturday, St. Petersburg hadn't had any measurable rain in eight days. Tampa had minimal rain over the same period, according to the National Weather Service.

August, typically the wettest month of the year in the Tampa Bay area, is about an inch above average in Tampa with 8.63 inches. St. Petersburg is about two inches below average with 5.87 inches.

The rest of the region has seen a lot of rain this month, too.

Safety Harbor in Pinellas County and New Port Richey in Pasco County have both seen more than a foot so far this month, according to Bay News 9. Weeki Wachee in Hernando County saw 9.75 inches
