BROOKSVILLE — Hernando County sheriff's deputies have arrested three men in connection with an attempted home invasion Wednesday at a house on LaRuth Road, east of Brooksville in the vicinity of Bystre Lake.

Edward Young Jr., 21, of 6351 Cammie St., Brooksville, and Tony Lee Smith, Jr., 21, and Denzel Devon Smith, 19, both of 6166 SW 104 Road, Bushnell, were charged with attempted home invasion and remained in the Hernando County Jail on Thursday in lieu of $50,000 bail each.

According to a Sheriff's Office report, the men were seen walking behind an unoccupied house near the home of Eric Adams at 25205 LaRuth Road about 7:20 a.m. Wednesday. Adams, who called 911, told authorities that he watched from inside as the three men, all dressed in black, approached his house. At least two of the men were armed with guns, Adams said.

As deputies arrived, the men fled. Deputies later recovered two firearms on property adjoining Adams' home, along with other evidence that linked back to the suspects, according to the Sheriff's Office.

During interviews with investigators, Tony Smith and Young said that all three had gone to Adams' house with the intention of robbing him.

The Sheriff's Office said Thursday that it had made no connection between the incident on LaRuth Road and a separate home invasion on Weatherly Road on Tuesday evening.
