ST. PETERSBURG — A man was shot and hospitalized late Monday after attempting to retrieve a tricycle he reported stolen a week ago, police said.
Henry Johnson, 25, of St. Petersburg was shot in the neck and taken to Bayfront Medical Center, where he was expected to live. Police arrested 20-year-old Jeremy Rodriguez of St. Petersburg on a charge of aggravated battery.
The incident happened around 11 p.m. in the 7900 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Street N.
Johnson and his cousin were walking when Johnson saw his black and blue tricycle that he reported stolen a week ago, police said. He confronted Rodriguez and confirmed that it was his tricycle. He took it back. As he was wheeling it away, he heard a gunshot and was hit in the neck by a .25-caliber bullet, according to police.
