WESLEY CHAPEL — A southbound stretch of Interstate 75 was closed for a few hours early Tuesday after a load of paint was spilled in a crash, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened about 2:40 a.m., about midway between the exits for State Road 52 and State Road 54. A box truck driving south hit a disabled semi tractor that was parked on the west shoulder, FHP said.

The impact sent the box truck across the southbound lanes, hitting the guardrail and overturning into the median, FHP said. The driver, Raymond Homer Gilbertson of Largo, was taken to Florida Hospital of Tampa with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The semi driver was not injured.

The lanes have been reopened. Troopers are still investigating the crash to determine whether any charges will be filed.
