TAMPA — A 16-year-old Chamberlain High School student raped a girl at school Monday morning, Tampa police said.
The girl, also 16, had a hall pass to go to her locker during class time. The boy started following her and, when she passed the gym, he forced her into a nearby boy's bathroom and raped her, police said.
Afterward, he went back to class and she reported the incident to the school resource officer.
At first, he denied having contact with the young woman. He then changed his story. Both versions were inconsistent with physical evidence, police say.
They arrested the boy, 16-year-old Joshua Bynum of Tampa, and charged him with sexual battery.
School officials say they're cooperating with police. Chamberlain's principal is sending out a phone message to parents, letting them know about the arrest.
