Program explores Alzheimer's issues

HPH Hospice will offer a free five-week educational series for those who have friends or loved ones with Alzheimer's disease. The program will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 8 to Oct. 6, at the HPH office at 12260 Cortez Blvd. It will be conducted by Jerry Fisher of the Florida Gulf Coast Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. The series will include an overview of Alzheimer's disease, changes in communication, dealing with difficult behaviors, caregiving, research and treatment. Discussion will follow each presentation. 12-week course looks at mental illness

The National Alliance on Mental Illness/NAMI Hernando will offer its Family-to-Family program at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays, starting Sept. 2, at the Beautiful Mind Outreach Center, 10554 Spring Hill Drive. This is a 12-week course that focuses on helping family members understand and cope with mental illness. It is taught by trained instructors who also have loved ones with mental illnesses. There is no cost to participate, but space is limited and reservations are required. Call Mariann Eckman at (352) 683-1350.
