From left, Mary Miles, 6, of Wesley Chapel, Gabriel Roman, 4, of Largo and Maleek Golden, 3, of Largo line up for free throws Saturday at Largo Recreation’s Block Party Bash at the Highland Recreation Complex. The event is a community promotion of the classes and programs that Highland Recreation offers and features class demonstrations, food, music, games and live music.

A traditional block party is about neighbors congregating in a public space, catching up with each other while dancing to music, playing games and celebrating the community. Last Saturday, the Highland Block Party Bash included all of the above. More than 400 people visited the Highland Recreation Complex, opened 38 years ago, where they danced to Tampa-based band Stix of Fire, sweated it out during Zumba sessions and twirled cartwheels with Bayside Gymnastics. Along with basketball and tennis courts and a fitness center, the city recreation complex is home to the Largo Skate Park and the Highland Family Aquatics Center. For information on registering for fall programs, visit www.largo.com.
