Health Workers Lauded for Preparedness
The Hernando County Health Department has been recognized by the National Association of County and City Health Officials for its ability to respond to public health emergencies. The department met the comprehensive preparedness benchmarks required by Project Public Health Ready, a partnership between the national association and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Expectations were met in three key areas: preparedness planning, workforce competency and demonstration of all hazards readiness through exercises or a response to a real event. For information on Project Public Health Ready, visit naccho.org/topics/emergency/pphr.cfm. For information on the Health Department emergency response, call Nina Mattei at (352) 540-6822.

Correction
Thomas Kidder, the victim of a July 31 shooting in Spring Hill, did not tell investigators he owned the handgun involved in the shooting. The gun, which belonged to a Pasco County sheriff's deputy, had been stolen by another person. A story in Sunday's edition incorrectly attributed information to Kidder.
