TAMPA — Lint from a clothes dryer caught fire early Wednesday, igniting a blaze that caused $60,000 in damage.
Jamie Godwin, 52, woke up early Wednesday to do some laundry, said Tampa Fire Rescue spokesman Bill Wade.
She put clothes in the dryer and left for about 10 minutes. When she returned, the dryer was on fire.
She and her four children escaped. No one was injured.
Firefighers got the call about 6:41 a.m. and arrived at 8405 Orangeview Ave. N a few minutes later. They found flames shooting out of the home.
The fire was under control in about 15 minutes, Wade said.
Investigators determined the fire was caused by a lint build-up in the dryer duct, Wade said.
The Tampa chapter of the American Red Cross is providing shelter, food and clothing for the family.
