The city's police union ratified a new labor contract on Friday that includes same-sex health benefits. The vote was 216-2, said St. Petersburg Detective Mark Marland, president of the Suncoast Police Benevolent Association. Mayor Bill Foster has said he expects all full-time city workers to eventually gain the benefit, and that the City Council will approve the three-year contract for rank-and-file officers. The new contract also gives officers step increases, which are raises given for years of service.
