Florida West Ballet has auditions on Saturday
The Florida West Ballet is holding auditions on Saturday. The nonprofit scholarship program for dancers ages 8 to 18 is in its 30th season. All students in the program receive partial scholarships, and male ballet students receive full scholarships. The cost of the audition is $20. Female students should wear a black leotard, pink tights, hair in a bun and bring ballet or pointe shoes. Male students should wear black tights, solid color shirt and ballet slippers. 5K AIDS Walk is at North Shore Park
The seventh annual AIDS Walk St. Petersburg will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at North Shore Park, 901 N Shore Drive NE. The 5K walk begins and ends at the park. Author to speak about journey from Sudan
Bestselling author Dave Eggers will speak at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in McArthur Gymnasium at Eckerd College, 4200 54th Ave. S, in St. Petersburg. Eggers will discuss the odyssey of Valentino Achak Deng, one of the "lost boys" of Sudan, as he journeyed from Southern Sudan to a temporary shelter in Ethiopia, to a refugee camp in Kenya, and finally to Atlanta as written in his book, What is the What: The Autobiography of Valentino Achak Deng. Aquatic center offers lifeguard classes
The St. Pete Beach Aquatic Center, 7701 Boca Ciega Drive, offers certified lifeguard classes from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. The session will run Sept. 14 to Oct. 7. Students must be at least 15 years old and complete a swimming and diving test and precourse on Thursday.
