TAMPA — The woman who police say was with Dantae Morris when he fatally shot two police officers was repeatedly hit in the chest by a relative during a police interrogation, her attorney alleges in documents filed in U.S. District Court.
Cortnee Brantley was interrogated by police for seven hours, said defense attorney Grady Irvin Jr.
During the interview, family members were often present, and "law enforcement appeared to acquiesce to Ms. Brantley being repeatedly struck in the chest by a member of her family," Irvin wrote.
Brantley, 22, is charged with a federal crime of concealing the fact that Morris was a felon who had a firearm.
Morris is accused of gunning down Tampa police officers Jeffrey Kocab and David Curtis in late June.
Brantley has pleaded not guilty to misprision of a felony.
A judge set the trial for Oct. 4 before Judge James S. Moody Jr.
