Docent Eric Houghton, center, shares historical tidbits during the Dunedin Historical Society’s walking tour on Thursday.
DUNEDIN — Docent Eric Houghton told a couple dozen tourgoers Thursday that early Dunedinites snacked on jellied calves' hooves, had a town witch named Captain Kate and stayed in a waterfront sanitarium if, heaven forbid, they came down with tuberculosis.
Those were just a few of the tidbits shared during the Dunedin Historical Society's inaugural walking tour, a guided, 90-minute stroll around the Celtic downtown. The tours are slated to continue every Thursday, beginning at 10 a.m., through May.
Tickets are $15 for adults; children under 12 are free with a paying adult. Tour participants receive a bag of goodies including a visitor's guidebook, maps, and a list of restaurants and shops offering discounts that day. The tickets also include entry to the Dunedin Historical Museum, 349 Main St., which serves as the launching point for the tour.
Proceeds benefit the museum. Future tours are limited to 10 people at a time.
For information, call the museum at (727) 736-1176.
