Oak Hill Hospital at 11375 Cortez Blvd., Spring Hill, was recently designated as a Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care by Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Florida.

Oak Hill is the first and only hospital in Hernando and Citrus counties to hold this designation. The designation means the facility provides a full range of cardiac care services, including in-patient cardiac care, cardiac rehab, cardiac catheterization and cardiac surgery, including coronary artery bypass graft surgery.

Susan Smith-Skelton, community liaison with Horizon Homecare, has been promoted to a sales leadership position at the agency.

Smith-Skelton will mentor colleagues and help them enhance their marketing skills. She has been with Horizon Homecare for nearly two years and currently markets in west Pasco.

Dr. Craig R. Bennett was the featured speaker at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point on Sept. 23, presenting a lecture on treatments for hip and knee arthritis.

Events

The Sertoma Speech and Hearing Foundation will host a Hernando County employment forum for employers and for people with disabilities from 8 to 11 a.m. Monday at the Residence at Timber Pines, 3140 Forest Road.

Job seekers will have an opportunity to learn about job possibilities. Employers will be provided with the latest information on tax benefits when hiring individuals with disabilities. A complimentary breakfast will be served.

The Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce will host a seminar/workshop featuring Bright House Networks' Jen Holloway at 9 a.m. Wednesday at 15588 Aviation Loop Drive, south of Brooksville, in the chamber's training room.

Holloway's seminar, "Perception is Everything: How You Make That First Impression Opens the Door to Potential Clients," will focus on ways to sell yourself in the first 30 seconds, whether in person or in the media.

In December 2008, Holloway retired as the longtime morning anchor for BayNews 9 and began a new position as a marketing relations representative for Bright House Networks.

The Hernando Youth Initiative will present the third annual Summit for Youth, sponsored by the Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce Education Committee and the Hernando County Education Foundation, on Thursday at Faith Presbyterian Church, 200 Mount Fair Ave., Brooksville.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., and the event will be from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Speakers include Jack Levine, child and community advocate for more than 25 years, and Sandra Covington Smith from the Drop Out Prevention Center. Communities in Schools will be highlighted as a research-based solution to students dropping out of school.

POSH Hair Studio, 14233 Powell Road, Spring Hill, will have its third annual Cutting for a Cure fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 3, in memory of Jenna Cucciniello, niece of owner Susan Alascia.

Jenna Cucciniello was diagnosed with a brain tumor and died Feb. 2, 2007.

Each year, in memory of her niece, Alascia holds a fundraiser to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. All haircuts are $20, and 100 percent of the proceeds will go to the hospital for brain tumor research.

Donations will be accepted. Raffles, entertainment, a dunk tank and refreshments will be offered. Sponsors include Allied Veterans of the World, Felony's Bar & Grill, Deli-Licious and the Wine Toad, which will hold a Drinking for a Cure event in conjunction with the hair-cutting event.

The Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce will offer a two-day workshop, "Maximizing Your Time," from 8 a.m. to noon Oct. 8 and 15 at the chamber's training room, 15588 Aviation Loop Drive, south of Brooksville.

Participants will gain practical tips to help assess their time-management effectiveness and create a personal plan for improving their skills. Each participant will receive a personalized "time mastery profile."

The workshop will be conducted by Lori Bainum, a corporate trainer specializing in communication, team building, leadership and motivational speaking.

The course is open to the public. The cost is $99 for chamber members and $129 for nonmembers. A certificate of completion will be awarded to those participants who compete both days of the workshop.
