ST. PETERSBURG – A woman was arrested Thursday morning after she assaulted an officer and went for his gun during a drunken driving arrest, police said.
Kimberly M. Hyde, 38, of St. Petersburg, was charged with drunken driving, battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence, obstruction and attempting to deprive an officer of means of protection. She remains in jail in lieu of $15,650 bail.
Police said they pulled her over after she was speeding and didn't stop at a red light. They smelled alcohol on her and she appeared impaired during field sobriety tests.
She became agitated while in one cruiser, police said, and she was combative when they tried to transfer her to another vehicle. She kicked an officer twice and tried to grab another's gun from his holster.
Police said they were able to restrain her on the ground, where she again kicked an officer.
