Garden club's fall plant sale is this weekend

The Spring Hill Garden Club will host its fall plant sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 1 and 2 at the plant nursery, 1489 Parker Ave. Along with plants for sale, there will be various plant vendors on hand and tours of the adjacent Nature Coast Botanical Gardens. In case of rain, the sale will be Oct. 8 and 9. The garden club is also looking for volunteers to help work in the plant nursery and botanical gardens. The nursery is open from 9 a.m. to noon Mondays and Saturdays, but volunteers can schedule additional time to devote to weeding, planting, propagating, mulching and general gardening activities. The botanical gardens includes 20 themed sections and is open daily during daylight hours. There is no cost for admission, but donations are appreciated. Program needs senior volunteers

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program needs volunteers 55 and older. Various volunteer opportunities are available for programs such as Meals on Wheels, at area senior centers, as a museum docent or researcher, in local libraries, food banks and more. Stop by the RSVP Welcome Center at 880 Kennedy Blvd., Brooksville, or call (352) 796-8117, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays.

Fund for firefighter who lost family

The Pasco County Firefighters IAFF Local 4420 has set up a fund to benefit Matthew Kemper, a Pasco County firefighter whose mother and sister died in a house fire. His mother, Trudy, and sister, Tamerla Kemper, were killed Sept. 21 when an electrical fire destroyed their small mobile home in Spring Hill. Donations can be sent to IAFF Local 4420, Attn. City raffling off original watercolor

The city's Art Gallery is raffling off Abandoned Gate, an original watercolor painting by artist Tom Jones. The painting is valued at $400 and is on display at the gallery, 201 Howell Ave. Tickets are $3 each or two for $5. The drawing will be on Dec. 9 at the Winter Art Reception at City Hall (the winner need not be present to win). Funds raised will benefit the City Hall Art Gallery. Trail group to host meeting Monday

The Suncoast Chapter of the Florida Trail Association will host an informational meeting at 6 p.m. Monday at Southwest Florida Water Management District, 2370 Broad St., south of Brooksville.
