Tickets available Oct. 4 for free jazz concert in Brooksville

Free jazz show tickets available Monday

The U.S. Army Field Band Jazz Ambassadors will perform a free concert at 7 p.m. Oct. 23 in the gymnasium at West Hernando Middle School, 14325 Ken Austin Parkway. Although free, tickets are required for admission. Distribution of the free tickets will start Monday at two locations: the front lobby at the St. Petersburg Times, 15365 Cortez Blvd. (from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays), and the office at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 5030 Mariner Blvd., Spring Hill (from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.). Tickets will be distributed first-come, first-served. Tickets are limited to four per family.

Helpers sought for festival

The Hernando County Parks and Recreation Department needs volunteers to help with the 21st annual Halloween Harvest Festival, which will be Oct. 22 and 23 at the Hernando County Fairgrounds, 6436 S Broad St. Individuals 14 and older are needed to work from 5 to 11 p.m. on either or both days. Help is needed with the haunted house, games, serving food and cleanup. Those interested in helping may contact Marie Warren at (352) 540-6239 or mwarren@co.hernando.fl.us.

Offices open late Mondays

Hernando County Code Enforcement and Animal Services are no longer open on Saturdays, but are open later on Mondays to accommodate residents outside normal business hours. Hours are from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday and from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. The facility, at 19450 Oliver St., is closed weekends and holidays. Telephone service begins at 9:30 a.m. Mondays and 8:30 a.m. Tuesday through Friday. Call Animal Services at (352) 796-5062 or Code Enforcement at (352) 754-4056.

Classical concert is today

The three Rotary clubs in Hernando County will sponsor the third annual Music for Life classical music concert at 2 p.m. today at Nativity Lutheran Church, 6363 Commercial Way. The concert will feature two vocalists and a violinist: Lauren Healey, Sarah Coit and Christina Adams. Tickets are $10 each and are tax-deductible. Proceeds will benefit the Rotary's Polio Plus program to eradicate polio. Tickets will be available at the door.
