ST. PETERSBURG — A 28-year-old Sarasota man died late Monday after colliding with a guardrail on Interstate-275, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Joseph E. Sylvia was driving a 1998 Ford Explorer south on I-275 near the exit ramp for 22nd Avenue North, troopers said.
Troopers said the SUV moved onto the inside paved shoulder when Sylvia tried to regain control and veered across the southbound lanes. Sylvia's vehicle crossed over the outside paved shoulder and struck a guardrail with around 11:05 p.m.
Sylvia died at the scene.
An alcohol test is pending, according to the FHP. Troopers did not say whether he was wearing a seatbelt.
