CLEARWATER — Police say a bicyclist trying to cross N Fort Harrison Avenue was seriously injured Wednesday night after being struck by a tow truck.
The accident happened shortly after 8 p.m. near Eldridge Street.
According to preliminary information, the bicyclist was crossing Fort Harrison in the middle of a block when a BJ's Towing truck hit him, said Elizabeth Watts, the city's public safety spokeswoman. The bicyclist, who was taken to Bayfront Medical Center with life threatening injuries, was not identified. Police said he is an adult male.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the incident, Watts said. No other details were available late Wednesday night.
