CLEARWATER — Police identified the bicyclist struck by a tow truck Wednesday night as 55-year-old John R. Smith.
Smith, who is transient, was crossing N Fort Harrison Avenue in the middle of a block near Eldridge Street. A BJ's Towing truck hit him, said Elizabeth Watts, the city's public safety spokeswoman.
The accident happened shortly after 8 p.m.
The tow truck driver was identified as 41-year-old Anthony Glandt,
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the incident, Watts said.
