LARGO — The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit and the Pinellas County Diversion Task Force Coalition will hold the fourth round of "Operation Medicine Cabinet" from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.
The event is an opportunity for residents to discard unused or expired prescription medications, with no questions asked.
This time, eight law enforcement agencies around the county are participating, and drop-off sites have increased to 19 locations at Walgreens parking lots across the county, including 10 in mid and north Pinellas.
The event is an effort to raise awareness about prescription drug abuse. Statistics show that the most-abused drugs in the United States are prescription drugs.
Neither prescription nor over-the-counter drugs should be flushed down the toilet, because they can end up in the water supply.
Residents can stop by during designated times and drop off medications for safe collection and disposal. No biohazards or needles will be accepted. The program is not intended for commercial interests.
