As a four-term incumbent, Sandra Nicholson is the veteran of the School Board. She ran unopposed in 2008 but this year drew two challengers. Nicholson took nearly 39 percent of the vote in the August primary, prompting a runoff with retired Hernando County teacher Cynthia Moore, who won 33 percent. A victory for Nicholson would mean a sweep for the board's three incumbents this year as John Sweeney and Dianne Bonfield won their respective races in August. Tony Marrero, Times staff writer.
About the job: District 5 covers the northeastern part of the county, generally east of Brooksville to the Citrus and Sumter county lines, but the election is countywide. School Board terms are four years and the annual salary is $32,912.
