• Ten Wesley Chapel High School students have earned AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on Advanced Placement exams. About 18 percent of the more than 1.8 million students worldwide who took AP exams did well enough to earn AP Scholar Awards.
Senior Nicholas Cox qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of the exams.
The AP Scholars with Honor Award is earned by students who earn an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of the exams.
Seniors Westley Courchene and Cody Reeves and Class of 2010 graduates Chanel Letourneau and Brittany Troast earned the AP Scholars with Honor Awards. Class of 2010 graduates Yuya Burkhart, Cassandra Deal, Dean Holliday, Mary Paulino and Justin Robertson qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP Exams with scores of 3 or higher.
• The Moore-Mickens Wildcats Cats and Dogs Special Olympics Softball Team took first place at the area softball tournament in New Port Richey.
The team defeated Gulf High School, 11-0, and the Eastside Bombers, 6-2.
The team is undefeated going into the state tournament. Team members are Brian Starnes, John Algood, Justen Buchanan, Jose Duran, Vincent Hernandez, Alex Williams, Dustin Chancey and Tony Wiggins.
