American Cancer Society needs volunteer drivers in Hernando County

Help a cancer patient get to treatments

The American Cancer Society has a desperate need for volunteers for its Road to Recovery program to drive Hernando County cancer patients to their chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Schedules are flexible and training is provided. Requirements include having a good driving record, valid driver's license, insurance and a smoke-free vehicle in good, running condition. Those wishing to help out can call Joan at (352) 799- 9078.

SPRING HILL

Ethnic festival begins today

The 20th annual Ethnic Festival kicks off today from 5 to 10 p.m. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 13485 Spring Hill Drive. The event features midway rides, games, entertainment and a variety of food. Admission and parking are free. The event will continue from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, noon to 10 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. Today's entertainment includes John Leggio's Center for the Performing Arts, St. Joan of Arc Life Teen Band, Explorer K-8 Band, Chocachatti Hip Hop Shop Dancers, DiAna's Dance Express and Dragon's DoJo.

BROOKSVILLE

Fly-in lunch Oct. 30 at county airport

Brooksville Chapter 1298 of the Experimental Aircraft Association will host a Fall Fly and Drive In Lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 30 at the chapter's hangar at the Hernando County Airport, 2495 S Broad St., south of Brooksville. Pilots attending are asked to call Unicom on 123.00 before landing for tie-down information. Non-fliers are also welcome and can have an escorted tour of the airplanes that will be flown in from throughout Florida and Georgia. Birthday bash for Marine Corps

Reservations are needed by Monday to attend the U.S. Marine Corps birthday celebration, hosted by the Marine Corps League, Spring Hill Detachment 708. The event will start at 5 p.m. Nov. 10 at Glen Lakes Golf and Country Club, 9000 Glen Lakes Blvd. The theme is "Reflections: Your Time in the Corps." Music will be provided by the Rebound Band.
