Shotgun lay near body found off U.S. 19

A body was found in the woods west of U.S. 19 Friday evening, police said. Officers were responding to a call for a check on someone's welfare around 5 p.m. when they found the body near Oelsner Street and Limit Drive, said New Port Richey police Chief Jeff Harrington. Officers suspect a homicide, but did not release any additional details. A shotgun lay 10 feet away, police said.

Veterans forums today, Oct. 30

The first of two county-sponsored veterans forums takes place today at Zephyrhills High School. The Veterans Resource Forums will provide information about veterans benefits and services for health care and housing. Free flu shots will be available, along with food and entertainment. The event is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Zephyrhills High School, 6335 12th St. Pasco County Veterans Services will present a second forum from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 30 at Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School, 13651 Hays Road in Spring Hill.

Paintball outing for youth Oct. 30

True Life Center, a nondenominational church at 4797 Allen Road, will host a Youth "Under Fire" Paintball Event at 11 a.m. Oct. 30. ELFERS

Novice computer class scheduled

A computer class for beginners meets from 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 2, 3 and 4 at CARES Elfers Senior Center, 4136 Barker Drive. An intermediate computer class meets from 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 16, 17 and 18, also at CARES Elfers. The fee for each three-part course is $33 and includes a manual. To sign up, call (727) 847-1290.

Railway workers group sets election

The local chapter of the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees Inc. will elect officers at 11 a.m. Nov. 4 at Regency Retirement Home, 6711 Embassy Blvd. The meeting of NARVRE Unit 170 also includes lunch at noon. Garage, bake sale aids Relay for Life

A community garage sale and bake sale will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 6 to raise money for the Relay for Life, a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.
