Nature center offering events in November
Chinsegut Nature Center will host the following events and programs:
• Pioneer Day, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 6. Includes living arts demonstrations of the past, such as hand-cranked ice cream, broom making, lumber jack demonstration, horse-drawn wagon rides, ropemaking, open hearth cooking, archery exhibit and numerous other activities and demonstrations.
• Pioneer Medicinal Plant Walk, 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 8. Led by Sid Taylor.
• Introductory Tatting Class, 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 9. Presented by Robin McAndrew. Bring your own tatting needles and thread.
• Making Turkey Wingbone Calls, 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 12. Presented by Stan Taylor. Bring your own turkey wing. Call for instructions.
• Pine Needle Craft Class, 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 18. Make holiday decorations out of longleaf pine needles.
• Birding 101, 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 20. Introductory birding class for all ages. Bring binoculars and a birding field guide, if you have them.
• Introductory Map and Compass Workshop, 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 20.
• Chinsegut Birding Hike with the Hernando Audubon Society, 8 to 11 a.m. Nov. 27. Meet at the trailhead at U.S. 41 and County Road 481, north of Brooksville. Bring a picnic lunch.
