• The Hernando County School District's Relay for Life team will have a Treasures and Craft Sale, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 6, at the Hernando County School Board grounds, 919 N Broad St., Brooksville. SPRING HILL
Powell Middle girls chorus in concert
Powell Middle School Advanced Girls Chorus will perform at 7 p.m. Friday at United Church of Christ, 4244 Mariner Blvd.
Friday's concert will include 18th century baroque music, Gregorian chant, South African songs of celebration, a setting of Psalm 23 and two modern choral selections.
The chorus has been invited by the Florida Chapter of the American Choral Directors Association to perform at the state convention Nov. 6 at Seminole State College in Lake Mary.
The chorus is under the direction of David Pletincks and accompanied on piano by Kathy Hackemer.

Get all your pets vaccinated at low cost
Veterinary staff from the Florida International Teaching Zoo will provide a low-cost pet vaccination clinic from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Tractor Supply, 18741 Cortez Blvd.
Rabies vaccinations for dogs and cats will be $6. Dog distemper/parvovirus combo shots and cat distemper shots will be $14, and dog kennel cough/bordatella shots will be $15. All vaccinations will be administered by the veterinarian. Documentation will be provided.
Proceeds are tax-deductible contributions that benefit the teaching zoo, Project Green Jungle and elephant survival programs. For information, call (352) 867-7788 (leave message).
HIGH POINT
Library book sale will help buy new books
The High Point Volunteer Library will host a book sale from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 6 and 7 at the Community Center at 12249 Clubhouse Road.
The sale will include hardcovers for 75 cents each and paperbacks for 25 cents each. Profits will to toward the purchase of new books.

Sen. Nelson aide sets office hours Tuesday
A representative of U.S. Senator Bill Nelson will hold office hours from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at Brooksville City Hall, 201 Howell Ave.

BROOKSVILLE
Community street cleanup scheduled
As part of the South Brooksville Fall Festival, a communitywide street cleanup will be held from 8:15 to 10 a.m. Saturday in south Brooksville. Volunteers should report to Eastside House of God, 824 Twigg St., at 7:45 a.m. for assignments.
Before the cleanup, residents in the community have an opportunity to clear their properties of unwanted items and dispose of them in one of three Dumpsters provided by Central Carting, Waste Management of Pasco, Daniel Construction and the city of Brooksville.
Three bins, available through Friday afternoon, are at Duke Street at Ellington Avenue, Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at School Street, and on Twigg Street.
Residents are asked to place items such as tires, batteries and hazardous household materials (e.g. paint, pesticides, pool chemicals, cleaners) next to the bins, not inside.
As part of the cleanup, city and county public works operations will perform the heavier tasks, such as clearing drainage ditches, culverts and overgrown foliage.

Swiftmud looking for comment on river flow
The Southwest Florida Water Management District invites public comment on proposed minimum flows and levels for the upper and middle Withlacoochee River at a workshop from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the district headquarters, 2379 Broad St., south of Brooksville.
At the workshop, district staffers will review the regulatory framework and the technical basis for the proposed minimum flows and levels.
Public comments gathered at the workshop will be summarized and presented to the Governing Board. Written comments are also welcome and can be e-mailed no later than Friday to Jason Hood, environmental scientist, at jason.hood@watermatters.org. For information, call (352) 796-7211.
