ST. PETERSBURG — Expect to see some well-known public faces Tuesday as city officials urge motorists to slow down.
Mayor Bill Foster, police Chief Chuck Harmon and fire Chief James Large will wave signs near three elementary schools, encouraging drivers to slow down and drive carefully.
Banners and signs will be in place near schools Tuesday through Thursday, reminding motorists that school has started and to watch out for children. This is the city's fifth annual "Back to School — Drive Carefully" campaign.
Statistics show that younger children are more at risk for pedestrian accidents, officials said. Officials plan to focus on middle and elementary schools.
