Investigators examine a damaged Chevrolet Lumina after Monday morning’s accident involving a semitrailer truck.

TAMPA — Deputies responded to a Monday-morning crash involving a semitrailer truck and another vehicle that sent one person to the hospital in critical condition.

At 10:20 a.m., Jessica V. Crenshaw, 21, was driving a 1994 Chevrolet Lumina west on Lithia Pinecrest Road, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. For an unknown reason, Crenshaw veered into the eastbound lane near Highway 39 S and struck the rear tires of a 2001 Volvo semitrailer truck driven by Daniel Craig Boone, 46, of Tampa.

Boone had tried to veer off the side of the road in order to miss Crenshaw's vehicle, but he failed.

Crenshaw was taken to Tampa General Hospital by helicopter and was listed in critical condition. Boone was taken to Tampa General with minor injuries by Tampa Fire Rescue.

Lithia Pinecrest Road was closed in both directions for a short time at the scene so a helicopter could land.
