RIVERVIEW – Two teenagers were arrested Monday after Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies say they broke into a car and were later tracked down by the canine unit.

Steven Paul Serra, 19, and Christopher Michael Rainey, 18, both of Riverview, were charged with burglary of an unoccupied conveyance. Serra was also charged with grand theft and possession of burglary tools.

Deputies responded to the burglary of a vehicle call at 2:37 a.m. at Cobb Drive and Alice Lane. Two canine units responded to the scene and the dogs were able to track and locate Serra and Rainey, deputies said.

Deputies also found a backpack with an iPod and several bags of change. One suspect — deputies didn't specify who — said the iPod was from the vehicle and the change was from other vehicle burglaries they had committed in the area, deputies said.

The suspects told deputies they normally targeted gated communities because most individuals in them don't lock their vehicles and because of the lack of security.

The investigation is still ongoing and more charges may be pending, deputies said.
