RIVERVIEW — Two teenagers were arrested Monday after Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies say they broke into a car and were found by a police dog.

Steven Paul Serra, 19, and Christopher Michael Rainey, 18, both of Riverview, were charged with burglary of an unoccupied conveyance. Serra also was charged with grand theft and possession of burglary tools.

Deputies responded to the vehicle burglary call at 2:37 a.m. at Cobb Drive and Alice Lane. Two sheriff's canine units went to the scene and found Serra and Rainey, deputies said.

Deputies also found a backpack with an iPod and several bags of change. One suspect — deputies didn't specify who — said the iPod was from the vehicle and the change was from other vehicle burglaries they had committed, deputies said.

The suspects told deputies they targeted gated communities because most residents in them don't lock their vehicles. The investigation is ongoing.
