Countywide
Program allows SNAP enrollment by phone
The Department of Elder Affairs has launched a project to help low-income elders enroll for Florida's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits without enrolling online.
While the state food stamp program requires most applicants to fill out requests online, this three-year pilot project will enable elders who are reluctant or unable to visit an office location or apply online to call the state's Elder Helpline and have a trained professional enter the online data for them. Hernando is one of 16 counties participating in the program.
Seniors looking for help with a SNAP application can call the helpline toll-free at 1-800-96-ELDER (963-5337) between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays.
