Nugent lands seats on vets, security panels
Hernando Sheriff and U.S. Rep.-elect Rich Nugent will serve on House committees that tackle issues close to his heart. Nugent, a Spring Hill Republican elected last month to the 5th District seat now held by Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite, landed seats on the Committee on Homeland Security and the Committee on Veteran Affairs. Nugent served in the Illinois Air National Guard and will leave the sheriff's post Dec. 31, halfway through his third term. The 5th District has one of the highest numbers of veterans in the country. "Serving on these committees will give me a chance to continue fighting for a safer America and to be an advocate for those who risked everything in defense of our nation," Nugent said in a statement Friday.
