CLEARWATER — A Pinellas County's sheriff's deputy suffered minor injuries Monday when his cruiser was struck from behind as he slowed to assist a disabled vehicle.
Deputy Michael Dipolito was traveling west about 9:15 a.m. on Countryside Boulevard when he noticed an off-duty deputy stopped behind a disabled vehicle at the Enterprise Road intersection.
He slowed and activated his emergency lights to see if he could help, the Sheriff's Office said. That's when he was rear-ended by a Chevrolet Avalanche driven by Marvin Coon, 57, of Clearwater.
Dipolito, 45, was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. Coon was not injured and was cited for careless driving, the Sheriff's Office said. Both vehicles sustained minor damage.
The Sheriff's Office continues to investigate.
