Several hundred people gathered outside the he new $36 million Dalí Museum on the downtown St. Petersburg waterfront Tuesday, following the morning procession led by a horse-drawn carriage from the old museum.
Many wore shorts out on the chilly but sunny museum-front terrace, adding to the Florida festive mood as they were served refreshments and listened to live jazz music.
The ribbon-cutting is scheduled for 11:11 a.m., the time intended to echo the opening date: 1/11/11. The symmetry would have surely pleased the Spanish artist, who loved to play with numbers.
A series of odd characters on stilts and in horse-drawn carriages and colorful dance routines paraded through the streets at 9:30 a.m. to mark the opening. Bizarrely dressed drum line members and an 18-foot loaf of bread baked by Mizarro's Italian Market ...
