TAMPA — Police have identified a pedestrian killed Tuesday night in a downtown Tampa crash as Sidney Robert Summerlin, 32. Police said the man was homeless.
The accident occurred about 7:45 p.m. along the Interstate 275 off-ramp that merges onto Tampa Street. Benjamin Walker, 42, said he drives the route in his four-door white Acura every day on his way home from work.
"That guy just jumped out in front of me," a shaken Walker said at the scene. "I have no idea why he would do a thing like that."
Walker, of Riverview, said Summerlin ran down a small hill on the side of the road and onto the street. Walker said he didn't have enough time to stop.
