TRINITY — A Mitchell High School sophomore was hit and killed Wednesday morning while crossing Little Road with friends, authorities said.
Cierra Mamonoff, 15, was hit by a car driving north on Little Road, near Kish Boulevard, about 9:40 a.m. She was crossing from west to east with a group of friends, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Crisis counselors were dispatched to Mitchell High, where students and teachers were dealing with the shock of the tragedy.
"We are grateful that Cierra graced our school with her smile and kind manner," school district spokeswoman Summer Romagnoli said. "To assist our students and staff in handling this loss, a special crisis intervention team is serving our school. An increased level of individual and group counseling services are available. We will continue to provide these services to students as long as they are needed."
