Wisdom for parents in new year of the trees

Today is the Jewish holiday of Tu B'shvat, the 15th of Shevat on the Jewish calendar, marking the beginning of a new year for the trees. In the land of Israel, the trees begin a new fruit-bearing cycle.

Jews in Pasco, as well as Israel and around the world, mark this little-known holiday by eating fruit, especially the kind mentioned in the Torah, which praises the bounty of the Holy Land: grapes, figs, almonds, pomegranates and dates.

In addition to the practical implications, there is also a deeper meaning to the holiday: one of growth and renewal, education and guidance.
