Muscovy shot with arrow is recovering

TARPON SPRINGS — The male Muscovy duck that was rescued Thursday after being shot with an arrow is on the mend and has a new home.

"The arrow luckily went through the butt, the rump, the back part, and it missed any kind of intestines or organs," said Michelle Simoneau, spokeswoman for Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary.

"He was very lucky," she said.

And that's exactly what he'll be called: Lucky.

Sanctuary director Ralph Heath is adopting the bird and picked out the name.

"That's definitely a lucky duck," Heath said. "That arrow, I'm sure it could have gone an inch in any direction and it would have been fatal."

Lucky the duck will join dozens of other birds — mostly rescued pigeons and doves — that Heath cares for at his home, he said.
