Himes Avenue is closed southbound at Kennedy do to a watermain break.
TAMPA — A water main at Kennedy Boulevard and Himes Avenue broke Monday night, snarling traffic.
The two southbound lanes of Himes were closed at Kennedy on Tuesday morning. The two eastbound lanes of Kennedy also were closed near the intersection, causing minor traffic delays.
"It's a little bit more involved that we originally thought," said Elias Franco of the Tampa Water Department. The city is coordinating its efforts with the state Department of Transportation.
Repairs were expected to start late Tuesday or Wednesday. The leak should be fixed by Friday.
Franco said the leak did not affect water pressure in the area.
