ST. PETERSBURG — Police accused a transient of trying to incite a riot near where two police officers were fatally shot Monday morning, records show.
Donald Marcel Bowens, 41, was yelling threats at police and inciting other members of a growing crowd about 1:30 p.m. Monday near 26th Avenue S and 37th Street S, according to an arrest affidavit.
Bowens said "if the suspect in the officer-involved shooting was deceased that he and the crowd were going to kill the police," according to the affidavit.
Bowens faces charges of inciting a riot, battery of a law enforcement officer and disorderly intoxication. He was being held in lieu of $10,000 bail.
