NEW PORT RICHEY
Service will honor victims in 9/11 attacks
A memorial service to honor the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday at Sims Park. Organizers emphasize that this will be an opportunity for people in Pasco to unite as Americans, participate in prayer by local clergy and hear patriotic music by the Richey Concert Band and choral groups from local schools. The keynote speaker will be retired Marine Lt. Col. Thomas Castriota, owner of Castriota Chevrolet, who served in Iraq. Organizers are asking people to participate in Operation Shoebox, which sends support, snacks and personal care items to troops deployed outside the United States. Donations — including items such as hard candy, canned food, all kinds of toiletries, small board games and crossword puzzles — from individuals or groups can be made at the memorial service.
